Sometimes less is more: If you're looking for an affordable machine but don't want any compromises on quality, the new WAFIOS Performance Machine SCM 08 is definitely worth a look. The »Spring Coiling Machine« for the wire diameter range from 0.2 to 0.8 mm is a WAFIOS machine for the inline operation with downstream machines. With this machine, WAFIOS offers a low-cost machine for the economical production of large batches of right-hand coiled compression springs. Reliable WAFIOS technology from the F series, such as a camera measuring system (FVS), as well as new features like the WAFIOS Assistant, are optionally available.
Equipment of the SCM 08
To create a cost-effective machine, the SCM 08 was technically optimized to include only the most essential features, while maintaining the quality of the springs produced. The coiling machine succeeds the FWM-1 from Böhm Elektronik GmbH and offers a comprehensive standard configuration, featuring the latest drive technology for right-hand coiled springs, employing the well-known FPS 1.2 software. This software features a user-friendly interface, simplified spring input, convenient machine operation, and a fully integrated camera-based measurement system. The equipment has been optimized for cost-effectiveness and features four CNC axes for the infeed unit, the shape drive, the straight cutting device, and the parallel displaceable pitch device. Due to the parallel displaceable pitch device, the spring is already positioned optimally for onward transport through a hose system. For greater flexibility, you can optionally add the proven coiling pin holder from the F series or a customized spring removal system.
Optimized for inline operation
The SCM 08 has been designed for inline operation in combination with downstream processes. After the spring has been coiled and measured by the camera system, it enters the hose system via a hose sorting switch and is thus passed directly to the next machine. Based on the camera's measurement results, the sorting device either rejects defective springs or feeds them precisely and safely to the connected machine. This prevents springs from becoming tangled and ensures they are safely transferred to the next process. The SCM 08 communicates with the connected machine via an electrical interface. Thus, a spring end grinding machine, for example from Böhm Elektronik, can be connected. The loading plate of the spring end grinding machine is loaded directly via the hose system. Additional processes, including heat treatment and film packaging, can be offered for inline operation. The speed of spring production is coordinated with the connected machines.
"The SCM 08 has been presented for the first time at the wire show 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany. It received very positive feedback there. The spring machine is a cost-effective yet high-quality solution that has been specifically engineered to optimize its core functions. It is ideal for use in combination with other machines. The machine is designed to produce finished springs that can be ground, heat-treated, or packaged immediately after coiling", says Jörg Eisele, CEO of WAFIOS.
The machine is built for continuous operation and, once set up, produces reliably and with precision. The SCM 08 is offered in combination with a new, patented and not powered pay-off unit GHF 5. The pay-off unit meets the requirements for spools of up to 50 kg weight and is also particularly easy to use. Thanks to its compact design, the pay-off unit can be attached directly to the machine to save space. Alternatively, the spring coiling machine can be operated with a powered and controlled pay-off unit for wire spools of up to 500 kg weight. In combination with the WAFIOS AHT pay-off unit of the Plus generation (a pay-off unit for loose wire coils and spools), there is the Smart Pay-Off Interface (SPI) available. The SPI allows the pay-off unit and machine to grow together into one intelligent unit. If equipped with an SPI, the pay-off unit will be configured by the connected machine. The base speed and other parameters are preset based on the available data. The interface makes transparency the new standard: all relevant information, such as pay-off speed and current status, can be clearly viewed at any time.
Smart support for a smooth operation
The new, intelligent systems from WAFIOS support operators in their day-to-day production work. The WAFIOS Assistant (optional) and myWAFIOS.ai assist with machine setup or answer the operator's questions. Especially in times of labor shortages, this can help streamline the production. The WAFIOS Assistant is operated via a second monitor and supports operators in setting up the machine by providing instructions, images, and videos. In addition to the setup procedures provided, users can define individual assistance procedures. This promotes consistent setup of the machine throughout the entire company while preserving valuable know-how. The individual processes remain safely within the company.
myWAFIOS is a new AI function offering information on e.g. setup, troubleshooting and retooling. The AI retrieves this information from WAFIOS manuals, tutorials and machine plans as well as from experienced WAFIOS operators and service technicians. The patent-pending communication system transmits the information via a visual QR code with an offline link. Users can access myWAFIOS.ai from any mobile device with a camera, even if the machine itself is not online. This way, operators can get quick and easy help with their day-to-day tasks.
